Sotto to File Senate Reso Lauding Pacquiao’s Latest Boxing Win

Senate Majority Leader Vicente C. Sotto III said he is set to introduce at the resumption of the Senate sessions on Monday a resolution lauding the latest victory of fellow Senator and Filipino boxing icon Emmanuel “Manny” Pacquiao.

Sotto said the proposed resolution commends Pacquiao for wresting the World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight title from American-Mexican boxer Jessie Vargas in his most spectacular boxing bout at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada last Sunday (Manila time).

Sotto noted that Pacquiao’s passion for boxing is “still burning” despite his earlier declaration that he will retire from the ring.

He also pointed out that his fellow senator’s achievement has “brought honor, pride and inspiration to all Filipinos anywhere in the world.”

“Senator Manny Pacquiao deserves to be recognized and commended once again not only for adding another world title to his collections but also for the concomitant pride and honor that he gives to our country,” the proposed resolution reads.

“The Senate of the Philippines commends and congratulates Senator Emmanuel ‘Manny’ Pacquiao for defeating Jessie Vargas in his comeback boxing match held in Las Vegas, Nevada and being declared as the new WBO welterweight champion,” it further says.

Senators earlier expressed admiration for Pacquiao for having been able to balance boxing training and working as a senator.

They also assured full support whether Pacquiao would have decided to quit or continue boxing.

Pacquiao is expected to fly back home from the United States immediately to attend the remaining Senate sessions for the year. (PNA) SCS/ANP
