Singaporean President Invites Marcos Jr. for State Visit

After being congratulated by multiple world leaders in recent days, presumptive president Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. now received an invite for a state visit by Singaporean President Halimah Yacob.

The invite came in after Marcos Jr. and Chinese President and General Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party Xi Jinping talked over the phone about improving bilateral ties between China and the Philippines amid continuous tensions as China continues to lay claim over islands belonging to the Philippines under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.

Marcos received a letter from the Singaporean President shortly thereafter, in which the Singaporean leader congratulated Marcos Jr. on his 2022 national election victory.

“On behalf of the people of the Republic of Singapore, I warmly congratulate you on your electoral success,” Yacob said.

Yacob added she is looking forward to further improving diplomatic ties with the Philippines.

“Singapore and the Philippines share a warm and long-standing relationship, underpinned by strong economic cooperation and robust people-to-people ties,”
Yacob added.

Yacob mentioned her state visit to the Philippines in 2019, which she described as “warm and gracious.”

“I recall fondly the warm and gracious hospitality extended to me by the Filipino people during my State Visit to the Philippines in September 2019. I look forward to working with you to strengthen the friendship between our two countries,” Yacob added.

The Singaporean leader also went on her way to invite the presumptive president to a state visit to Singapore once he officially takes office.

“I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to make a State Visit to Singapore. I wish you every success in steering the Philippines to greater heights,”
Yacob said.
