Rama Wants to Donate P5M to Zambo Fire Victims

Mayor Michael Rama wants Cebu City government to give P5 million cash assistance for the fire victims in the series of fire incidents in Zamboanga City because he learned that many of them are Cebuanos.

The mayor instructed City Councilor David “Dave” Tumulak to file a resolution appropriating the amount so that it can be taken up by the City Council and he can be authorized to give the donation through the Zamboanga City officials.

Rama came up with the amount after he was informed that the city still have a balance of over P100 million of its calamity budget.

According to Rama he was so worried when he learned from a newspaper report that the number of fire victims in Zamboanga City had already reached over 10,000.

“Maguol man gani ta kon duna lay lima o napulo ka balay nga masunog kana ba kaha nga pwerteng daghana na nga mga balay,” said Rama.

The were reports that the More National Liberation Front (MNLF) intentionally set up the series of fires that broke out in Zamboanga City as one way to stop the government troopers to launch a massive battle against them.

The battle between the MNLF rebels and government troops had already claimed several lives from both camps.
