Rama Gives some Casuals ‘Second Chance’

The committee formed by the mayor to re-evaluate the performance of more than 3,000 casual employees is yet to finalize the list of employees for renewal or non-renewal this coming July.

With six days to go before the contracts of 3,308 casual employees expire on June 30, the lists containing the names of those renewed will possibly be distributed starting Wednesday until the second week of July.

It will be posted in each department and division offices. Those not included in the list are advised not to report any more to their respective work stations.

However, Sonny Gimenea, Human Resource Development Office (HRDO) assistant department head, said that they will not be ending the services of more than 2,500 casual employees at the same time. The actual non-renewal of services of some casuals will be done within 3 to 6 months period.

Through this process, personnel who are still recommended for non-renewal will be given enough time to perform better, and also not to hamper services of the local government.

“The committee will be evaluating every month of the performances of those casuals. The mayor wanted to give time to the personnel sa ilang performance. Si mayor fair man gud, kinahanglan pud na siya og due process and they will be put under observation,” Gimenea explained.

Gimenea also assured that City Hall’s operations will not be hampered due to the non-renewal of services of a significant number of casual employees since most of them are in the utility and clerk levels.

Those who will not be renewed are casual employees who are said to be ‘hard-core’ supporters of Rama’s opponent even though they are warned earlier by the mayor not to participate in any political activities. The non-renewal of appointments is still within the mayor’s discretion.

The ‘re-evaluation committee’ was formed shortly after the election results by re-elected Mayor Rama. It is composed of more than 5 members appointed by the mayor himself to evaluate employees’ performance, at the same time, check their loyalty as the latter received reports that some personnel were seen engaging themselves in politics especially campaigning against him during the elections.
