During his speech in observance of the 78th Cebu City Charter Day program yesterday, Mayor Mike Rama said Cebu City is the “Queen City of the Philippines and not just in the south.

Rama said Cebu deserves the title on the reason that Sugbo is more peaceful and orderly than others and in fact, Rama said, has historic significance as the cradle of Christianity in the country.

“If you look at Cebu, its not as affected as Luzon and not as troubled as Mindanao. That’s why we should claim this,” he said.

Rama added that the city as a “queen” needs to enhance some aspects like infrastructure, environment, education and business.

The mayor in his speech also called for unity in order to bring Cebu forward.

“Politics need not be highlighted in the celebration. Oneness should be pronounced. There is unity in diversity. We should never be divided,” he said.

After the mass officiated by Sto. Niño Rector Fr. Jonas Mejares, the Rama clan offered flowers before the life-size statue of Don Vicente Rama in Plaza Sugbo.
