Proposed PHP27.9B Cebu-Cordova Bridge To Be Named Ceclex

The proposed PHP27.9-billion Cebu-Cordova bridge, the third road link between Cebu and Mactan Island, will be named the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (Ceclex), an official of the project proponent said.

Maria Teresa Capistrano, assistant vice president for corporate communications of Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. (MPTC), said Ceclex will be run and operated by the Cebu Cordova Link Expressway Corp. (CCLEC).

The CCLEC, a joint venture between MPTC and the local governments of Cebu City and the Municipality of Cordova, was incorporated last August 8.

The construction of the 8.25-kilometer Ceclex, the toll bridge that will connect Cebu City to Mactan via Cordova, is set to start by the second half of 2017 and is expected to be completed by 2020.

MPTC signed a joint venture agreement in April this year with the Cebu City Government and Municipality of Cordova to build the Cebu-Cordova link expressway.

The concession agreement was already signed last October 3.

The Ceclex is expected to decongest traffic in the two existing bridges linking Cebu and Mactan, the Marcelo Fernan Bridge and first Mandaue-Mactan Bridge.

The project includes the construction of the main bridge structure, viaduct, causeway, roadway and toll facilities.

It is located around 7.5 kilometers south of the first Mandaue-Mactan Bridge and will take off from the Cebu South Coastal Road crossing the Mactan channel to Cordova and Mactan Island. (PNA) LAP/EB/EDS
