Projects For Southern Cebu Towns In Full Swing

Doing his daily chores under overcast sky, a resident of barangay Tumalog, Oslob town, southern Cebu flashed a smile as he watched construction workers link the steel frames for the roofing of their new multi-purpose complex.

“Ma atopan na gyud intawon ang duwa-anan sa mga bata,” said the male resident, who requested not to be identified.

The P1.9 million farmer’s trading and multi-purpose complex is one of the many infrastructure projects the Cebu Provincial Government and Governor Hilario P. Davide III built in the hinterlands of the province.

With a population of 1,021, the project is expected to give residents the luxury of holding their activities under different weather conditions.

In another barangay in Oslob, a new pump will be installed in Balayong spring to help in the supply of water to three barangays namely Caceres, Bonbon and Pongtod.

Relying on deep wells as water source for the last two years, the new pump allows water to be channeled to the reservoir nestled above the spring where household pipelines needed for distribution are connected.

“Mahimo na namo og gamit pagbalik ang tangke diha sa taas para sa tulo ka barangays,” said barangay captain Rogelio Vinas Jr.

He said 200 households from three barangays will benefit from the installation, which cost P500,000 of Capitol funds.

Moreover, the renovation of Oslob District Hospital is now complete.

Pegged at almost P1 million, the money was spent for the expansion of the emergency room which can now accommodate 28 patients from a 19 bed capacity.

Hospital Chief Dr. Renato Cairo said the renovation is a big structural improvement for the medical facility, which
plans to apply for a level 1 accreditation once it complies with all requirements.

A turnover ceremony is set this Friday with Gov. Davide as guest of honor.

In Alcoy town, the Poblacion-Atabay Waterworks System which received P5 million funding from the Capitol for its rehabilitation is now 76 percent finished.

The financial assistance was earmarked for the replacement of the old and rusty pipelines of Alcoy’s water system from which 4,784 residents get their water.

In Sibonga town, a total of P2.5 million financial assistance, covering an infrastructure project, medical equipment and furniture were given by the Cebu Provincial Government.

Capitol allocated P2 million for the construction of a multi-purpose building at the town’s sports complex while it allotted P500,000 in medical equipment and furniture for the birthing facility.
