The Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecologic Society (POGS) – Cebu Chapter will hold a Valentine Dinner and Show for a cause this February 12 in Waterfront Hotel.

In a press statement released to Metro Cebu News, the purpose of this event is to raise awareness on obstetric al hemorrhage which is said to be the leading cause of maternal death.

The funds accumulated from this project is for the procurement of blood to be given to indigent women suffering from bleeding during pregnancy or while giving birth.

According to studies, POGS said everyday 830 women around the world die from this “preventable disease”, and 99 percent of these cases are from developing countries like the Philippines. In the World Health Organization survey in 2014, the Philippines was ranked 74th among countries with the highest rate of maternal death out of 184 countries surveyed.

POGS said it is about time that the country improve maternal health by reducing mortality. The Millennium Development Goals (MDG) has however included this particular problem, that in the 2015 survey, the maternal death has dropped by 43 percent worldwide.

But it is not enough, said POGS, adding that there is so much to be done.

The “Save a Mother from Hemorrhage” project by POGS has been campaigning to raise awareness on maternal death by making blood accessible to the indigent victims.

On February 12, POGS will bring the iconic Prince of Broadway, Jon Joven, to serenade the audience participating the dinner for cause with good music.

The CIMphony, a coral group from the Cebu Institute of Medicine, will also entertain the guests. Ballet performances from Cebu Center for Dance will also be part of the highlights in that dinner for a cause.
