PNP: Comelec Gun Ban Violators Now At 250

The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Wednesday announced the arrest of almost 250 persons for violating the firearms ban.

Chief Superintendent Wilben Mayor, PNP spokesman, said that as of 8 a.m. Wednesday, 250 persons, mostly civilians, have been apprehended for carrying firearms since the implementation of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban last Jan. 10 .

Of this individuals, 238 are civilians, two police officers, three government/elected official, three members of Bureau of Jail Management and Penelogy (BJMP), two security guards and one member from law enforcement agency (LEA) and CAFGU, Mayor said.

He added confiscated were 154 firearms, 734 bladed weapons, 23 other explosives, nine grenades, one other explosives, seven firearm replicas and 717 ammunition.

The gun ban is being implemented by the PNP and other law enforcement agencies for the national and local May 2016 election period from Jan. 10 to June 8.

“[PNP chief], Police Director General Ricardo Marquez, assures that the PNP will remain vigilant in its law enforcement and security operations to ensure Safe and Fair Election,” Mayor said. (PNA) FPV/CLTC
