Pilot Testing of First COVID Community Vaccination Center in Mandaue City Successful

The Visayas COVID-19 Vaccination Operations Center (VVOC) in cooperation with the Office of the Presidential Assistant for the Visayas (OPAV) held the very first successful pilot testing of the COVID Community Vaccination Center in Mandaue City.

The vaccination center is located at the Mandaue City Sports Complex and it aims to hasten the process of vaccination in the city. Medical frontliners and senior citizens were vaccinated during the pilot testing.

“Mandaue City’s adherence to the handbook of community vaccination center created by the Visayas COVID-19 Vaccination Operations Center (VVOC) shows that the manual when used properly can lead to successful implementation of vaccination roll out,” said OPAV Undersecretary Anthony Gerard “Junji” Gonzales.

The Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) Visayas headed by retired General Melquiades Feliciano has prepared the vaccination guideline handbook to help local government units set up efficient vaccination centers.

Feliciano said and strongly believed that the pilot testing was indeed a success.

“The flow that was set from the registration area up to the post vaccination area met the time and motion requirements. In its full capacity, it can vaccinate 800-900 individuals in 8 hours or 20,000 doses in a month,” Feliciano said.

VVOC is composed of the Department of Health Central Visayas (DOH)-7, OPAV, local government units (LGUs) and Project Balik Buhay.

Meanwhile, improvement on vaccination process and storage handling were focused during the VVOC meeting. Once implemented, a smoother vaccination operation will be achieved.

It was agreed that the VVOC process which was undertaken in Mandaue will serve as the benchmark to be followed by other LGUs in the Visayas.

Meanwhile, Dr. Dominga Obenza of Mandaue City Emergency Operations Center noted that doing the vaccine roll out on a suitable area as a pilot setting has tremendously improved the overall process. (MLC)
