Photography Tips From the Top

Wish you could take heart-stopping photographs from death-defying heights? Don’t have the stomach for it? Don’t worry – you’re not alone.

Urban photography is the latest social media craze, with daredevil photographers climbing to the top of skyscrapers and famous landmarks to capture amazing views. “It takes an artistic eye and a pretty fearless personality to get the job done,” says Jamal Burger, a freelance photographer.

With an impressive 71 thousand followers on Instagram, Jamal makes sure his pics are always ready to share by using a smartphone as his primary camera. “I’ve been using the LG G4 for a while now. Unlike other phones, the G4 comes with both JPEG and RAW file options, which means I can get professional quality pictures on-the-go,” explained Jamal.

To help you take the best photos possible, this pro shares some of his favourite photography tips and tricks:

Arm yourself with the right equipment: No matter how perfect the view, a poor quality camera can ruin a picture. That doesn’t mean you have to buy an expensive digital SLR – you can use your smartphone. Devices like the LG G4 have a high-res 16MP camera and bright Quad HD display to review your pictures as you capture them. Plus, with the G4’s Manual Mode, you can fine tune every exposure with advanced controls typically reserved for DSLR cameras.

Location, location, location: Get outside and capture the cityscape or your urban surroundings. You can easily make a location more interesting by mixing up your angles. Try pointing your camera up or down – different angles can alter the tone and perspective of the photo.

Rise and shine: The “magic hours” to shoot photos outdoors are an hour after sunrise and an hour before sunset. When the sun is low it produces softer, more flattering lighting that will add depth and character to the image.
