Seasoned cyclist Mark Galedo hopes to bring more honors to the Philippines next year.

The 31-year-old Galedo is part of the 7Eleven Road Bike team which is scheduled to compete in the Herald Sun Tour to be held in Melbourne, Australia on February 1-5.

“I have mixed emotions about the coming Herald Sun Tour,” said Galedo, who will be competing with World Tour teams led by Chris Froome, Simon Gerrans and Esteban Chaves among others.

“I am excited but also pressured to perform my best, especially to the Filipino community in Australia,” said the three-time Philippine Tour champion.

Galledo ended the 2016 season with a bang by winning the Tour of Guam this month. Before that, he was third in the Hell of Marianas and fifth in the Jelajah race in Malaysia.

“Wala naman sa edad yun, nasa disiplina, training at focus kung ano talaga ang iyong goal… Hindi porke may edad ka na ay babagsak na ang iyong career (It is not in the age. It’s in the discipline, training and focus on your goal… Just because you are advanced in years does not mean your career is over),” said Galledo, winner of the Tour de Pilipinas last year.

Galledo is taking a one-week rest and will resume training next month before leaving for the New Zealand Cycle Classic slated to be held on January 22-26. From New Zealand, the team will proceed to Melbourne. (PNA) CVL/JEAN T. MALANUM/EDS
