Phivolcs Records 7 Quakes in Mindanao; One in Luzon

Cotabato City (PNA) — The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), in its bulletin, on Sunday said it recorded seven earthquakes in Mindanao and one in Luzon in the past 30 hours or since dawn Saturday.

The latest tremor was of magnitude 5.7, tectonic in origin and traced 58 kilometers west of Bolinao, Pangasinan, the Phivolcs here said in its bulletin.

It happened at 3:40 a.m. with a depth of 14 kilometers, Phivolcs said.

Intensity IV was reported in Bolinao, Pangasinan, Intensity III in Dagupan City, Vigan City, Intensity II in Baguio City, San Clemente, Tarlac; Angeles and Mabalacat City, Pampanga; Sinait, Ilocos Sur; Iba, Zambales; Guagua, Pampanga; Intensity I in Pasig and Marikina City, San Jose, Nueva Ecija; Makati City, Santiago City, Isabela.

There was no reported casualty or damage to properties, Phivolcs said but aftershocks were expected.

At 4 a.m. Sunday, a magnitude 3.4 hit Mindanao which Phivolcs traced at 16 kilometers west of Manay, Davao Oriental. It was the seventh tremor recorded in Mindanao since 1 a.m. Saturday.

The Manay town tremor was also tectonic in origin and had a depth of 20 kilometers.

At 8:29 p.m. Saturday, a magnitude 5.2 earthquake occurred which Phivolcs located 34 kilometers east of Sarangani town in Davao Occidental. It was tectonic in origin and had a depth of focus of focus of 126 kilometers.

Intensity I was felt in General Santos City and Sarangani provincial capitol in Alabel town. No aftershock is expected, Phivolcs said.

Earlier, at 7:27 p.m., a magnitude 4.0 quake also hit Sarangani town, according to Phivolcs. It was tectonic in origin and traced at 126 kilometers south of Davao Occidental. The quake had a depth of 132 kilometers.

At 6:20 p.m. Saturday, a magnitude 3.2 tremor also hit Carmen, North Cotabato. Phivolcs said the tectonic quake was traced at 12 kilometers from Poblacion Carmen, North Cotabato.

The Carmen quake had a depth of 22 kilometers and was triggered by movement of underground plates.

At 1:33 a.m. Saturday, a magnitude 4.7 earthquake hit Davao City and its environs with the intensity felt as far as General Santos City and Cotabato City.

The tremor was tectonic in origin and its epicenter was traced at 16 kilometers north of Davao City. It had a depth of 14 kilometers.

Phivolcs said Intensity IV was felt in Davao City and Kidapawan City; Intensity III in Makilala, North Cotabato; Intensity II in Kabacan and Arakan, both in North Cotabato, and Cotabato City; and Intensity I in General Santos City.

At 12:58 a.m., a magnitude 3.8 hit the town of Taranggona, Davao Oriental. It was traced at 229 kilometers south of Taranggona and was tectonic in origin.

Phivolcs said no casualty or damage to property was reported in all the tremors. (PNA) SCS/NYP/EOF
