National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Undersecretary Rosemarie Edillon said that pushing for digital transformation could help catapult the economy amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

In an article by Philippine News Agency (PNA), Edillon said in an online press briefing on Tuesday that setting up digital infrastructures in the country can make the economy more resilient during this health crisis.

“We are really confident that this (is) really a good thing for us because of this push for greater digitalization,” said Edillon.

Digital transformation is one of the priorities of NEDA’s Task Group on Recovery along with health system improvement, food security, learning continuity, and ecological integrity towards having a healthy and resilient Philippines.

She also said that the Philippine Development Plan (PDP) has now shifted its focus on strategies for digital transformation and improving health safety and risk reduction management.

She also stated that while pushing for digitization, there is also a need to train the workforce on digital skills.

Meanwhile, NEDA also expects the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to improve in the third quarter of this year compared to the prior quarter. (ASC)
