The Department of Health (DOH) reported Tuesday night that the Philippines is one of the Asean countries with the lowest number of new COVID-19 daily cases.

This development in the Philippines’ fight against the pandemic comes as Health Secretary Francisco Duque III presented to President Rodrigo Duterte that the country currently logs 3.45 new COVID-19 infections per 1 million individuals everyday as of March 28.

In Asean region, the Philippines is currently trailed by Cambodia with 3.61 cases per 1 million individuals, Myanmar with 4.52 cases per 1 million individuals, and Indonesia with 17.82 per 1 million individuals.

The current number of daily cases per 1 million in the country still lags behind by more than double than that of China, which currently logs only 1.3 per 1 million individuals.

However, the Philippines has a population of a measly 110 million, which is a stark contrast to China’s population of 1.45 billion.

Meanwhile, the Philippines is continuously reaching lower average daily COVID-19 cases. For the week of March 23 to 29, the country only logged 2,651 new COVID-19 cases, a sharp decrease from the recorded 3,319 new COVID-19 cases from that of the previous week.

The current average daily cases of the country stands at 378. (GFB)
