PESO: More Vacancies, Less Applicants

Published

on

Despite the 10,000 job vacancies opened during the recent Overseas Job Fair initiated by the Public Employment Services Office (PESO) in the Capitol grounds on Sunday, at least 2, 192 registrants came to try out the numerous openings from overseas agencies, says PESO consultant Mathea Baguia.

Baguia said that of the two thousand registrants, only three applicants did not proceed to the final interview from the employer and were considered as “near-hire”.

This means they only need to comply with the requirements from the employer to be officially hired,” Baguia said.

Despite the small number of hires, Baguia said applicants must not lose hope because there are various job opportunities here in Cebu and abroad.

Twenty nine registered agencies were looking for employees in Cebu during the year-long Capitol Jobs Fair last July 9, 2017. Most agencies were eyeing skilled factory workers for Taiwan, Vietnam, Singapore, Kuwait, Japan, Cambodia, Australia and Qatar.

Di jod sila maka-ingon nga kulang ta og job openings, mas kulang gani ta og job applicants,” Baguia said.

She added that PESO will refresh their list for job hiring on a weekly basis and advice applicants to assess their qualifications.

So we would advise them (job applicants) they should come here and find out themselves if naa ba mga job openings nga mo-qualify sila,” Baguia said.

The Capitol-initiated Overseas Job Fair is just one of the six of scheduled fair this year.
