The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has encouraged members of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) to utilize the new mobile application in paying their membership dues using smartphones and tablets.

At the celebration of the Migrant Workers Day in Pasay City on Wednesday, Labor Secretary Silvestre H. Bello III said the new mobile application of OWWA offers a wide range of services that will benefit OWWA members, particularly overseas Filipino workers who are unable to find time to send their membership payments.

This is a manifestation of the labor department’s dedication in providing quality services to the Filipino migrant workers. Our modern-day heroes deserve more than salutations, but government initiatives to ensure their welfare while they sacrifice for their families and for the country,” Bello said.

Active OWWA members are required to pay $25.00 membership fee every two years to continue availing benefits, such as applying for loans, acquiring TESDA scholarship, availing of livelihood and entrepreneurship seminars and other reintegration programs for returning OFWs.

With the new OWWA mobile app, OFW members now has the ability to acquire information on programs and services of OWWA, such as disability, dismemberment, and death benefits, seafarers upgrading program; skills for employment scholarship program; information technology training program; and OFW Enterprise Development and Loan program.

Aside from renewing and paying their membership fees in the absence of an OWWA office in their host countries, OFWs can also access their personal information with the use of their mobile devices, such as employment contract information, membership status, payment history and member beneficiaries.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs), OWWA hotline numbers, email address, and regional office address are also available in the application.

OWWA active members can download the mobile application for free on their android devices via Google Playstore.

The mobile application now has more than 10,000 downloads since it was launched last May 2 during OWWA’s 35th Founding Anniversary. (Paul Ang-DOLE)
