Christmas celebration in this Queen City of the Philippines has officially opened.

This after the Pasko sa Sugbo 2015 kicked off yesterday evening, the first day of December held at the Fuente Circle, the heart of Cebu City.

The grand opening was highlighted by the ceremonial lighting of the 125-foot giant Christmas tree and the five-minute ‘Art in the Sky’ grand and spectacular fireworks display that wowed everyone and reminded that Christmas is fast-approaching.

Cebu City Mayor Michael Lopez Rama underscored, “Christmas is for everyone and it reminds us to care for each other,” adding that the activity aims to promote the Spirit of Christmas and that it is for everyone to be happy.

Pasko sa Sugbo is a brainchild of the Mayor which he initiated way back his stint as a City Councilor which first staged in the Plaza Parian. To date, the program has become bigger and better each year.

The People’s Mayor who brought with him his son Mikel on stage during his message acknowledged everyone who made the celebration possible especially couple and Christmas Tree sponsor Mr. and Mrs. Michel and Amparito Lhuillier and their family.

The Lhuillier family spent millions of pesos for the modern design giant Christmas tree which highlighted the baby Jesus, the reason for the annual celebration. They also sponsored the renovation of the now functional Fountain at the Center of Fuente Circle.

For his part, Vice Mayor Edgardo Labella wishes everyone a joyful and peaceful Christmas celebration.

Meanwhile, yesterday’s big event marked the re-opening of the Fuente Circle to the public after months of rehabilitation and renovation.

Series of nightly presentations for the whole month of December can also be seen and enjoyed which is open to the public for free as the different schools, institutions and civic organizations are scheduled to perform at the same venue from 6PM onwards. It is spearheaded by the Cebu City Youth Development Commission.

Thousands also joined and witnessed the yesterday’s historical event that included the Miss Cebu 2016 candidates, other City Officials and employees, various performers, media and the general public, among several others. A good weather was also observed during the celebration. (Cebu City Public Information Office PIO/Greggy Jiggs P. Senados)
