PAGASA on Sunday found two weather disturbances that includes a low-pressure area that can trigger flash floods and landslides in Eastern Visayas, and another that has a high chance of becoming a cyclone.

As of 11 am on Sunday, PAGASA said the first LPA was inside the PAR and was estimated at 220 km east-northeast of Surigao City as of 10 in the morning on Sunday, GMA News online reported.

The advisory said, “This weather system will bring cloudy skies with moderate to occasionally heavy rains and thunderstorms over Eastern Visayas particularly Eastern and Northern Samar. Residents in these areas are alerted against possible flash floods and landslides.”

PAGASA also warned the seaboards of Eastern and Central Visayas will be moderate to occasionally rough.

Report said the second LPA was estimated at 1,220 km east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar as of 10 a.m., and may develop into a tropical cyclone.

It added the LPA is expected to enter the PAR within the next 24 to 36 hours.

Report said that if it becomes a cyclone while inside the PAR, it will be locally codenamed “Ester.”

PAGASA said light to moderate to occasionally heavy rain was recorded over parts of Zamboanga City, Davao Oriental, Cotabato, General Santos City and Maguindanao as of 11:30 a.m.

The weather agency also noted moderate to occasionally heavy rain affecting Samar, Northern Samar and Eastern Samar.
