After reviewing 185 entries to the Pista ng Pelikulang Plipino – Sine Kabataan Short Film Competition, the National Youth Commission (NYC), together with the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) selected the top 12 finalists.

Among the top 12 finalists, two short films will be selected to receive the Jury’s Choice and Best Picture Awards.

The remaining 10 finalists will receive consolation prizes and Plaques of Appreciation.

We are awed by the overwhelming response that we received from the young film enthusiasts. This competition proves that the youth can truly utilize film as a medium in expressing their sentiments about issues affecting them,” Usec. Aiza Seguerra, NYC Chairperson points out.

The top 12 short films with their titles and directors are:
1. Haraya (Daniel Delgado);
2. Fat You (Ronnel Rivera III);
3. Dorothy (Angelique Evangelista);
4. Delayed Si Jhemerlyn Rose (Don Senoc);
5. Alipato (Michael Joshua Manahan);
6. Akalingwan Nang Rosa (Max Canlas);
7. Ya Right (Gab Mesina);
8. Shaded (Vanneza Clear Estanol);
9. Ang Unang Araw ng Pasukan (Ar-Jen Manlapig);
10. Pahimakas (Lance Maravillas);
11. Ang Kapitbahay Ko Sa 2014 (Anya Nepomuceno); and
12. Makartur (Brian Spencer Reyes)

According to Usec. Seguerra, “a special jury composed of noted film directors, Carlitos Siguion-Reyna and Raymond Red, together with NYC Commissioner Perci Cendana, will select the Best Picture and Jury’s Choice among the 12 finalists. A cash prize of PHP 50,000 will be given for the Best Picture while PHP 30,000 await the recipient of the Jury’s Choice.”

In addition, the FDCP will provide an immersion experience to the Director of the Best Picture with a round trip ticket and accommodation for one to the Busan International Film Festival

One of the best incentives to our young filmmakers who participated in this competition is to have their works shown to theaters nationwide beginning August 16-22, 2017 alongside with the regular films. This is hoped to raise awareness and consciousness on specific youth issues that are expected to inspire concrete actions from all concerned,” Seguerra added. (NYC)
