No Strict Enforcement of Bike Lanes Along Osmeña Boulevard Due to BRT Construction

There will be no strict enforcement of the bike lanes along Osmeña Boulevard in Cebu City because of the ongoing construction at the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system that is narrowing the lanes.

Land Transportation Office in Central Visayas (LTO-7) director Glen Galario however reminded motorists that strict implementation will be enforced in other parts not affected by the construction of the Cebu BRT.

Galario urged motorists to keep the bike lanes clear. “And when we drive, kailangan na mag drive hindi mainit ang ulo pag may pagkakamali man pwede naman daanin natin sa maayos na usapan,” Galario said, referring to the recent road rage incident in Manila.

“Di pa natin ma implement ang bike lanes because we do understand there is an ongoing construction and the road is smaller so we cannot strictly implement. But in other areas not affected by the construction, we will strictly enforce the bike lanes,” Galario said in Cebuano.

“Violating the bike lanes will result in a P4,000 fine for the motorist.

“Kung mahimo lang dili lang nato ipark ang atong mga sakyanan diha sa bike lanes ha kay kung ma atolan mo sa atong mga enforcers there will be a penalty (If possible, let us not park at the bike lanes because if our enforcers see this, then you will be fined),” Galario added.

The LTO-7 has already added 60 deputized LTO agents who will be roaming around Central Visayas, especially in Metro Cebu, to check on violations, especially on the road worthiness of private and public vehicles.

The LTO-7 said that they will be checking tires and functionality of warning or signal lights as well as overloading of vehicles and the observance of seatbelts.

As of August 2023, there are a total of 141 LTO deputized agents in the Central Visayas region.
