No Ready-made Medical Certificates – LTO

Dagupan City (PIA) – The Land Transportation Office (LTO) here has denied allegations that the office issues ready-made medical certificates for those availing of driver’s licenses.

Aileen Peteros, evaluator of LTO-Dagupan, said there is no truth to the allegation and no such things happen at LTO.

“Walang katotohanan yan. The issue might only be brought about by the change in procedure whereby a medical certificate can now be issued by any practicing physician,” Peteros said during the KBP Forum held at the Philippine Information Agency on Thursday.

Peteros explained that a medical certificate as a requirement in securing a driver’s license was used to be issued only by physicians accredited by LTO. But Department Order No. 2015-014 amended the process whereby “any licensed practicing medical practitioner can issue a medical certificate which in turn will be honoured by LTO.”

Peteros clarified, however, that the certificates must indicate the name, address, license number and professional regulations commission number of the physician. It also has to indicate if the applicant is physically and mentally fit to drive.

The LTO-Dagupan will also have a new service provider to facilitate the driver’s license card production, she added.

Apart from Dagupan, LTO has six other offices in Pangasinan: Rosales, Urdaneta City, San Carlos City, Lingayen, Bayambang and Alaminos City – where clients can transact their transport businesses. (MCA/VHS/PIA-1Pangasinan)
