NO MORE SHARKS IN TEMPURA?

News of shark meat being added to tempura tainted the headlines of a local daily last week. The truck that smuggled a reported 470 kilos of frozen shark meat to a food processor in a neighboring city was intercepted by Capitol’s anti-illegal fishing task force. The food processor, after the seizure, said they no longer used the prohibited meat.

Fortunately, the drivers transporting the over-fished meat were slapped for violations of RA 8850 or the Philippine Fisheries Code and 2012 Provincial law against hunting, capturing and sale of thresher sharks. Unfortunately, shark meat processor evade penalties because they have complete papers.

Its good to salivate over this street delicacy, but make sure it no longer has shark meat in it. The lingering question is that : How certain are we that sharks meat are no longer added in this road favorite?
