NGCP has donated over 2,000 pairs of socks to soldiers deployed in Marawi City, supporting the country’s troops who are fighting off terrorists who occupied the city since May.

Company employees launched a donation drive called Isang Libong Medyas para sa Marawi to show its solidarity with soldiers by providing them a piece of garment that goes a long way, according to a top military official.

“These pairs of socks will come in handy, as our combat troops barely even have the luxury of washing their socks. We’re grateful for this donation from NGCP,” said Brig. Gen William Alunday, commander of the 2nd Mechanized Brigade, who received the donation on behalf of the troops on 18 August 2017.

The company issued a call for donations among its employees, and the response was overwhelming, considering that the initial target of 1,000 pairs of socks was exceeded by two times. The total pairs of socks gathered reached 2,426 pairs.

“As a corporation that operates all over the Philippines, we recognize the hardships that many Filipinos face, including our troops who remain in conflict areas. This is a small gesture to show our solidarity with them, especially as our work also exposes us to challenges faced in different parts of the country,” the company said in a statement.

NGCP officials brought the donations to Iligan City, which were received by General Alunday and ranking officers of the military in the area.

NGCP is a Filipino-led, privately owned company in charge of operating, maintaining, and developing the country’s power grid, led by majority shareholders Henry Sy, Jr. and Robert Coyiuto, Jr.
