Music Review : Loop – Flirting with the Universe

Published

on

The album, “Flirting With The Universe” by Loop was released July 12, 2014 in Iligan. The album has 8 songs that were written by K.M. Trinidad. All songs were arranged by K.M. Trinidad, M.J. Pacalioga, J.P. Portado and JC Ramonal. All songs were recorded at M Shinobi Recordings and are distributed here in Cebu by Bomba records. The album is sold at P250.00.

At first start, even without listening to the album you already expect some class from the Indie band from Iligan. Album title alone is already something that catches your attention – Flirting with the Universe. It’s just classy.

The first song of the album is, “Runaway”. It is a good first song to start off the album as it features the creative arrangement of the band which is a staple of their sound.

“Lost”, is a personal favorite of mine as I can relate to its lyrics. I remember those college days were you are in love with some girl you don’t even know. You think of such crazy things like you can’t live with her and all but you never really knew the girl.

Only when you grow up you learn to understand that it was never love. It was just some crush or infatuation.  The foolishness of our younger days that is what the song, “Lost”, is all about for me.

“Appalled and Disgusted”, is also another song with beautiful lyrics; it’s a song of unconditional love.  It is one of those songs a man would want a woman to sing for him.

Then as the band started off with a song with intricate arrangements, they cap off the album with another similar song. This last song is, “The Rainmakers”.

What makes, The “Rainmakers”, is different from, “Runaway”, as this one is a fast complex song. The song achieves to balance the lightness of their sound while putting some speed to it. It is a good jam that is perfect for an album’s last song.

Beautiful lyrics, good tunes and a very tight sound, Loop’s, “Flirting with Universe” ,album deserves all the positive review it has been receiving.

And thanks to Bomba Records, Cebu is truly blessed to have the chance to avail their album.
