Mother Falls: A Top Tourist Destination in Aurora Town

San Luis, Aurora (PNA) — The Ditumabo Falls, which is also known as Mother Falls simply because it is the grandest of all waterfalls in the province, is becoming a top tourist destination here.

Town Mayor Annabelle C. Tangson said the number of tourists, both local and foreign, who come to see and swim in the Mother Falls, have increased significantly in the past years.

Tangson said that from January to July this year, the number of tourists reached 233,079, a 113% increase compared to 127,769 visitors last year.

To boost tourism development, the mayor said there is a move to put up two ziplines, 300 meters long each, going to the Ditumabo Mother Falls where its crystal clear water gushes endlessly, flowing and twisting among countless rocks and boulders downstream.

At present, she said the municipal government is imposing an eco-tourism development fee (ETDF) to support sustainable programs for tourism and environment protection, conservation and management here.

She said that since the imposition of ETDF on May 1 up to the present, the municipal government has already collected some Php2,466,252.

As part of the renewable energy program of the municipal government, she said that a 1.2-megawatt hydroelectric power generation system was constructed in the area to provide sustainable power to neighboring villages.

Mother Falls is surrounded by huge cliffs, green shrubbery and vines making the place a perfect venue for family picnics, nature tripping, trekking and other adventures.

It is about 50 meters high and falls on a 30-meter wide basin which provides a naturally cool swimming pool. (PNA) LAM/ZST/JDA/PS
