More Teachers Needed

The Department of Education (DepEd) in Central Visayas now needs more additional number of school teachers to cope the increasing number of new students this coming school opening.

DepEd-7 Regional Director Carmelita Dulangon in a statement said she was thankful for their Central Office who provide them 3,425 slots for new teachers in the region.

Although she did not mention how this number will be shared by the four provinces in the region, she emphasized that Cebu province will surely to have a big chunk of these slots considering the number of schools and students here.

Dulangon said that more than 44,000 work force of school mentors here who were serving their respective assignments will decreased this year due to various reasons, and one of these, she said, is the retirement of some teachers.

“That’s why i’m very thankful that we were given this additional slots for new teachers to be hired”, Dulangon said.

She explained that although this number is not enough due to the increasing number of new students, it could somehow be a big help to the growing need.

She however stressed that they are now in the process of screening all teacher applicants to ensure their capability to handle their job. Dulangon also said that every year there are plenty of newly graduates in the teaching courses who are waiting for a chance to work with DepEd.

At the same she encouraged every high school graduates to take the teaching courses because they have big chances to be hired
as every year the number of new students are increasing.

She added that while some teachers are retiring, DepEd should hire new applicants for their replacement.
