Nearly 500 volunteer blood donors within Cebu participated in the simultaneous Grand Bloodletting conducted at Cebu City Sports Center and University of Cebu Lapu-Lapu & Mandaue Campus (UCLM) last July 27.

Grand Bloodletting 2013 is a collaborative effort of the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry through its Health Committee, the Department of Health Regional Blood Center -7, Philippine Red Cross Cebu Chapter and convening partners. The event with the theme “Every Blood Donation is a Gift of Life,” was conducted in accordance to the National Blood Donor’s Month celebration.

More than 300 blood bags were collected during this year’s Grand Bloodletting. Last year, the event gathered almost 200 bags of blood.

Men and women in uniform led this year’s major donors with the personnel from the Philippine National Police Regional Office -7, Armed Forces of the Philippines Central Command (AFP CENTCOM), Philippine Air Force, Naval Forces Central (NAVFORCEN), Philippine Association of Detective & Protective Agency Operators (PADPAO), and the University of Cebu Lapu-Lapu & Mandaue Campus’ Reserved Officers’ Training Corps (UCLM ROTC).

Major players from the business sector such as the Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI), Ayala Business Club of Cebu, Inc. (ABCCI), International Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (IPI), and People Management Association of the Philippines (PMAP) also showed their support to this advocacy project with their employees as volunteer blood donors.

The participation of the Cebu City Sports Commission, Association of Barangay Councils, Barangay Zapatera, Rotary Club of Cebu Fuente and Gloria Maris, Rotaract Club of Cebu Fuente Community Based, Alay Lakad Foundation, and Philippine Network for Organ Sharing (PHILNOS) contributed to the event’s success.

Moreover, the support of the Ramon Chiu Foundation, Tune Hotel, Queen City Food Chain (Dunkin Donuts), Cebu Parklane International Hotel, Julie’s Franchise Corporation, Philippine Spring Water Resources, Inc., and Stitches & Wear Industries made this year’s bloodletting activity even more successful.
