(PNA) — The Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 will deploy more policemen to Lapu-Lapu City starting Monday as meetings of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit moves to the Shangri-La’s Mactan Island and Resort Spa in Mactan starting Monday.

President Benigno C. Aquino III is also expected to arrive in Cebu on Sept. 10 to join the senior ministers meeting.

Chief Superintendet Prudencio Tom Banas, PRO 7 director, earlier more than 3,000 policemen were deployed since the start of the APEC meetings in Cebu on Aug. 22.

Some 3,200 delegates are expected to arrive in Cebu for the APEC meetings, aside from some 3,000 support staff.

The police personnel deployed in Cebu secured the venues, including the hotels where the delegates stayed.

Senior Superintendet Armando Radoc, acting chief of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office, said security in the city will be augmented with the hosting high-level meetings.

But Radoc said he still doesn’t have the exact figures of police personnel deployed to the city.

More than 80 APEC meetings were scheduled in Cebu from August to October, most of which were held in Cebu City.

Radoc said police officers will be assigned to secure Shangri-La, as well as other hotels where delegates are billeted, such as Mövenpick, Plantation Bay Resort, BE Resorts and Crimson Resort.

Around 500 police officers from the neighboring provinces of Bohol and Negros Oriental have been deployed in the city since Aug. 19.

A series of ministerial meetings on banking and finance in Lapu-Lapu City will start on Monday and will end on Sept. 14.

The meetings will be hosted by the National Economic Development Authority and the Department of Finance.

Energy ministerial meetings to be hosted by the Deparment of Energy will take place from Oct. 12 to 14 in the same resort. (PNA) CTB/EB/SSC
