Mga Gwardiya Nagpataka lang ug Gamit sa ilang Pistola
This report is not clear what happened to the two security guards responsible in the fatal shooting to death of an elderly man, a German national, residing in a retirement home located in Alcoy, Cebu. This is apparently an offshoot of the kind of guards being hired by an establishment who do not fully realized what their obligation and responsibilities are to the elderly residents living inside the retirement home and who are otherwise believed to be somewhat jittery and trigger happy “pistoleros.”
The authorities should focus special attention to this case as this will serve as a possible deterrent factor for some retiring foreigners not to patronize our place anymore because of this particular incident which strongly unmasked our poorly trained security guards who, instead of providing safety and security to the elderly residents, are the ones directly involved in the fatal shooting of the victim who just happened to spend the evening in the office of that retirement home trying to spend a few hours outside the couple’s apartment. Special and prompt action is needed to solve this case with dispatch as it is the tourism industry and its propaganda aspect that are at stake here in trying to attract foreign elderly couples to our retirement homes to generate more money for the economic well-being of the communities concerned.
Footnote: This comment is in connection with a Sunstar column written by Publio Briones which talked about this particular unfortunate incident that took place in Alcoy, Cebu, where a retired German national living inside the retirement home was shot and killed by one of the two guards employed by the establishment. This happened at nighttime when the guard inside called for “backup” from the other guard assigned outside because he noticed a hooded man sitting inside the office. He probably mistook the elderly as an outsider so he called for “backup” and the guard who arrived without too much ado shot at the old man sitting inside the office, probably wanting to spend a few moments outside of their occupied apartment, leaving his wife inside their room who reportedly appeared shocked after knowing about the death of her husband at the hands of one of the guards.
