Health and Wellness Products are Booming in Cebu Amid Post-Covid Scenario

The sale of health and wellness-related products is booming in Cebu as the country continues to reel from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic some three years ago.

And this is why an exporter couple from Cebu invested in these products diversifying their existing business into a retail market for health equipment.

Owners Paul and Mona Dy opened Oasis Home wellness and lifestyle hub at the SM Seaside City in Cebu City featuring a mix of products including jacuzzis, heated towel racks, massage chairs, and the popular home sauna system.

The Dy couple originally was into export, construction, and manufacturing before they decided to dwell in health-related retail markets.

They exported “game day” souvenir products of sports league teams which are exported to the United States, Australia, and New Zealand under the PRD Concepts and Designs, Inc.

They said there is a huge potential in Cebu for health equipment as more and more people are recognizing the importance of taking care of their health and well-being due to the pandemic.

“A lot of Cebuanos now are getting into shape and this is what is trending now,” Mona Dy said. “In response to the challenges posed by the pandemic, our focus shifted towards offering products that contribute to overall health.”

In the future, the couple wanted a Cebuano community which will have a broader consumer base for health products and available within their reach.

These items are typically available in institutions, spa outlets, hotels, resorts, and membership gyms.

Since their shop’s opening in October 2023, Mona said there is already a huge chunk of sales from Cebu shoppers on sauna items regardless of the cost.

On the other hand, Paul said Oasis Home allows consumers to own sauna equipment or steam room features at home even with limited spaces in their houses or condo units. For example, the smallest modular sauna equipment only has a one-meter width.

“Our sauna products can fit even inside a studio condominium bathroom. We developed a less expensive version to make the sauna products modularized, portable, and power efficient,” Paul added.

Sauna equipment at home costs only P69,000. It gives the same health benefits as the regular sauna which gives the user improved blood circulation, lower blood pressure, reduced stress, breathing congestion, and skin health, among others.

“We want people to know about the benefits of sauna,” added Mona.

The 2020 Asian Development Outlook has forecasted that the wellness industry in the global and regional markets will be a huge market chunk in the post-COVID-19 period. (ZAG)
