Struggle for Radical Action (SRA) presents this September 20, 2014 – Mars Attack: A punk show tribute to the late Marty Dimento at Villa Musika, Lapu-Lapu City.

The show will start at 3 in the afternoon and ends at 12 midnight. The event will have an army of punk bands performing to pay tribute to one of Cebu’s recognized punk musician Marty Dimento or most famously known as “Mars”.

According to Wikipedia Punk rock (or simply punk) is a rock music genre that developed between 1974 and 1976 in the United States, United Kingdom, and Australia. Rooted in garage rock and other forms of what is now known as protopunk music, punk rock bands eschewed perceived excesses of mainstream 1970s rock.

Punk bands created fast, hard-edged music, typically with short songs, stripped-down instrumentation, and often political, anti-establishment lyrics. Punk embraces a DIY ethic; many bands self-produced recordings and distributed them through informal channels.

Bands such as the Sex Pistols, The Clash and The Damned in London, and Television, and the Ramones in New York City were recognized as the vanguard of the new musical movement.

Punk was also known for its distinctive styles of clothing and adornment (ranging from deliberately offensive T-shirts, leather jackets, spike bands and other studded or spiked jewelry to bondage and S&M clothes) and a variety of anti-authoritarian ideologies.

In Cebu, punk has been of the most united and recognizable among the music genres in the Cebu music scene. Not just organizing musical events, they also do feedings to the poor and join protests on issues about war and poverty.

Marty Dimento was one of the known leaders of the Cebu punk scene and it is high time for fellow musicians regardless of genre to commemorate him in on the event this September 20, 2014.

See you there!
