Manulife Employees Support For Medical Mission In Cebu

Manulife Business Processing Services (MBPS) employees assisted doctors from the Canadian non-profit organization, Urban Angels, with their medical mission in Toledo City, Cebu, in an initiative called Urban Angels MBPS Volunteer Program. MBPS also distributed free eyeglasses and donated various medical supplies and equipment to complement the wide range of services provided by the medical mission.

Since 2011, Manulife has partnered with volunteer doctors to provide free medical services to needy communities in the Philippines. These services include free check-ups, physiotherapy, internal medical, pediatrics, eye care, and medical and reconstructive surgeries. On an annual basis, the Urban Angels medical mission performs almost 4,000 medical consultations, conducts 200 eye checkups and performs simple surgeries.

“For the past six years, we have been supporting Urban Angel’s mission to provide medical and surgical services to underprivileged communities,” said Gigi Mantaring, General Manager, MBPS. “Their work has become critical to these communities and Urban Angels are expanding their work to more communities in the Philippines.”

Thirty-four employees from MBPS took time off from their work to volunteer and assist the doctors and nurses from Urban Angels medical team from February 21 to 25.

“Most of the employees who have volunteered have a medical background, and this mission is a great opportunity for them to apply their skills and knowledge for a good cause,” noted Mantaring. “Urban Angels and MBPS are bringing Filipinos quality healthcare and a better quality of life.”
