Malapascua Gets Circumferential Road

Through the efforts of Gov. Hilario P. Davide III and the Cebu Provincial Government, Malapascua Island (one of Cebu’s treasured dive spots) will soon have a circumferential road.

Engr. Bobby Lim of the Provincial Engineering Office (PEO) said the preparatory works for the concreting of the road curb already started.

The winning bidder of the P3.9 million project in Barangay Logon, Daanbantayan town was Socor Construction Corp.

The five-kilometer circumferential road was a component of the revised Malapascua Island Eco-Tourism Development Plan (MIEDP) signed by Governor Davide last year.

Davide initially allocated P5 million for the MIEDP. It includes the construction of multipurpose building and development of water supply and hybrid power source.

The previous MIEDP was crafted during the time of then Governor Pablo Garcia in 2002. The negotiation for the road right of way of the circumferential road continued during the governorship of her daughter Gwendolyn Garcia.

In the PEO project status monitoring, around P122 million worth of infrastructure projects have been constructed this year.

Some of these are expected to be finished before the end of 2015 or early next year depending on weather conditions.

Most of the projects are roads, schoolbuildings, and water supply. The contractor of schoolbuildings and road projects was given 105 to 125 days to finish them.

The P20 million concreting of Abuno-Guindaruhan road project was also started.

Engr. Lim said the provincial road is one of busiest roads in Minglanilla because of the quarry activities in the highland areas.

From 20 centimeters, the thickness was made 30 centimeters similar, to the standard of the national road. The road will be widened to seven meters, which the Capitol acquires the road right of way with the help of Primary Properties Corp.

The road connects Minglanilla to the newly-developed Naga (City) Valley Industrial Park developed by Primary Properties.
