Malacañang Declares Oct. 16 as Special Non-working Day in Calbayog

Calbayog City, Samar (PNA) – Malacañang issued Proclamation No. 1131 declaring Oct. 16, 2015 as a Special Non-Working Day in this city as it marks its 67th Charter Day celebration.

It states that “it is fitting and proper that the people of the Calbayog City be given full opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasion with appropriate ceremonies.”

The proclamation was signed on Sept. 24, 2015 by Executive Secretary Paquito N. Ochoa Jr. by authority of His Excellency Benigno S. Aquino III.

Meanwhile, the city government here has already lined up the series of activities for this year’s Charter Day anniversary dubbed as ‘Adlaw san Calbayog” with the theme: “Rig-onon Pitad Asenso: Calbayog, ine na…”

The celebration kicks off with the Tourism Week celebration on the first week, wherein the city through the City Tourism and Information Office will conduct a three-day Tourism Caravan and visit public elementary and secondary schools in rural villages, Tourism Quiz Bee and 3rd Calbayog Tinapa Cookfest.

On October 10, a fun run with the theme “Gugma san Salog, Dalagan Calbayog” will be held spearheaded by Save Calbayog Rivers Foundation, Inc. Concerted Effort (SACRIFICE).

The week-long grand charter day celebration will commence on Oct. 12 with the An Kasayuran 2015, State of the City Address (SOCA) of Mayor Ronaldo P. Aquino. Other city officials, selected guests and representatives of various sectors in the city are invited to grace the event.

On Oct. 13, there will be the ground breaking ceremony of the Calbayog City Regional Senior High School for Arts and Design campus at Tomalon Estate in Gadgaran village.

Other activities are opening of Serbisyo Karaban 2015. Services like free legal aide, free civil registration assistance, free medical services, jobs fair and other services will be available to the public at the city hall compound, Taboan sa Bungto, Barangay Night.

Rumba Samarnon, Farmer’s and Fisherfolks Congress, Stakeholder’s Night, 3rd Taksikol’s Drivers Day, Pedicab’s Drivers Day, Employees Night, Mini Concert with LGU Chorale, Kasalang Bayan 2015.

On Oct. 16, “Adlaw san Calbayog” a Thanksgiving Mass at 6 a.m.will be held at Sts. Peter and Paul Cathedral, it will be followed by a Civic-Military Parade and the Charter Day Program, and in the evening will be the I Love Calbayog Street Party with Parokya ni Edgar.

Republic Act No. 328 otherwise known as the City Charter of Calbayog was signed into law on July 15, 1948 by then President Manuel Roxas, while the first set of city officials, were sworn in on Oct. 16, 1948. (PNA) FPVRCK/SQM/JENNIFER SUMAGANG–ALLEGADO
