LP Bets in Talisay to re-open Tabunok market

If they get the majority seats in the Council, the Liberal Party (LP) team in Talisay City assured their supporters they would re-open the Tabunok Public Market (TPM).

LP-Talisay Vice-mayoralty bet Romeo Villarante said there are still several vendors who are suffering from TPM’s closure, and the only way to help them is to re-open it. He insisted that the Lagtang Public Market, even after more than a year since it was opened, is still not helping the vendors because of its location. Villarante said the market buildings in Tabunok, which have been abandoned since August of 2011, will only need repair to be ready again for operation.

It wasVillarante and his fellow opposition councilors, Val Ylanan and Danny Caballero, who were against the transfer of the market to Lagtang, saying it would displace many vendors. The TPM has close to 1,000 vendors, and according to them, the stalls in Lagtang Public Market, could not accommodate all the vendors from TPM. But this was refuted by the City Hall, which said the new market could accommodate every legitimate vendor from TPM. More than a year since the transfer had happened, some of the vendors came back to the corners of Tabunok to display their wares. Villarante said it is because these vendors are not earning well in the new market due to the inaccessibility of Lagtang.

Villarante assured his team would push for TPM’s reopening. But added they could only do it if they could bring in majority of the LP guys to the council. For this term, only three councilors are from LP.
