Local Planners to Hold National Convention on May 19

Local development planners in the country will hold their national convention in Cebu next week.

Engr. Christine Homez, President of Local League of Local Planning and Development Coordinators of the Philippines Inc (LLPDCPI)-Cebu Chapter, said they are expecting more than a hundred participants from all over the country.

The event’s theme is “Role of Development Planners in the Promotion of Smart Local Government Units” which will run from May 19 to 23 at the newly renovated Grand Convention Center in Archbishop Reyes.

Vice President Jejomar Binay, who heads the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council, will give his keynote address on May 20.

There will also be messages from Secretary Arsenio Balicasa of the Socio-Economic Planning of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III and president of the National League of Municipalities, Tuburan Mayor Democrito Diamante.

The topics to be discussed during the convention include, “Use of Technologies in promoting Smart LGU’s” and “Public-Private Partnership in Promoting Smart LGU’s”.

There will be guest speakers from NEDA, Department of Science and Technology (DOST), and the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

The planners who will attend, according to Homez, are from the academe and the government sector.

LLPDCPI is an association of planning and development coordinators of all local government units in the country. From provinces, cities and municipalities.

The members, Homez said, are united with a common interest and commitment for the rationalization of development planning as a profession and imbued by ideas to bring about socio-economic progress in their respective jurisdiction and the nation. (With Press Release)
