At least 100 communicators and stakeholders of Cebu’s oil industry attended the multi-sectoral forum at the Crown Regency Hotel hosted by the Department of Energy (DOE) last October 4, 2013.

Apart from representatives from the energy department, there were also those coming from the local government units who were invited to air their concerns on power-related issues.

Gas station owners, retailers, and other stakeholders also came to participate the session which also tackled the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) Regulatory Framework, Liquefied Petroleum Product (LPP) retail rules, and the basic principle in calibration and sealing of mechanical pump.

The event is in line with DOE’s nationwide advocacy campaign in informing the public on the benefits and development of the oil industry. The session also aimed to discuss RA 8749 or the “Downstream Oil Industry Deregulation Act of 1998” to all the stakeholders and all those who came to participate in the sessions.

Republic Act 8749 states the government has the authority “to liberalize and deregulate the downstream oil industry in order to ensure a truly competitive market and that the State shall promote and encourage the entry of new participants in the downstream oil industry, and introduce adequate measures to ensure the attainment of these goals.”
