The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office VII will culminate this year’s National Children’s Month celebration by holding a Regional Children’s Contest on November 29, 2016 at the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Inc. Gynasium, Salinas Drive, Lahug, Cebu City.

Children representatives from the three provinces of Cebu, Bohol and Siquijor including the 10 cities in the region are expected to attend the annual activity and join the competitions that include draw and tell, singing and folk dance.

The whole day event will start at 10 in the morning with children from Children’s Center of Cebu and Naga City Youth Group to perform the doxology and the singing of the national anthem.

This year’s celebration carries the theme “Isulong: Kalidad na Edukasyon Para sa Lahat ng Bata! responding to Sustainability Development Goal (SDG) No. 4, which is to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote life-long learning opportunities to all.

DSWD-7 Regional Director Ma. Evelyn Macapobre stressed that education plays an important role in helping children develop their potentials, be able to engage meaningfully and build resilience.

Earlier, DSWD-7 spearheaded an awareness walk where 400 participants coming from various national government agencies, local government units and non-government organizations attended the opening salvo last November 5, 2016

The kick-off program started in Fuente Osmena Circle going to Plaza Independencia in Cebu City.

DSWD-7 turned-over close to 150,000 pencils to the Department of Education in support of the one million lapis campaign, which will benefit public school children in the country.

In a related development, three exemplary children in Central Visayas also joined the recently concluded National Children Congress (NCC) held at Elan Hotel in San Juan City. They were Jamaica Aventajado of Ubay, Bohol, Theresa Moranta of Dumanjug, Cebu and Melanie Lomoljo of Maria, Siqujor.

NCC is an annual gathering of Pantawid Pamilya children-beneficiaries.
