The Davao Korean Golfers Association (DKGA) 1 tallied 168 points to retain its team title even as Archie Moralizon and Mayong Pillerin emerged as the champion partners in the 8th Phoenix Open golf tournament held Saturday at the Rancho Palos Verdes Golf and Country Club in this city.

DKGA 1 was powered by team captain Kim Il Gyu (42), Yoo Duk Soo (45), Lee Bong Hee (41), Lee Jae Un (40) and Jung In Kyu (34).

They won by seven points over fellow Koreans Team KHB (161) played by Lim Chul Kyu (44), Chon Young Rung (40), Kang Ho Bong (39) Kim Sang Yeun (38) and Yoo Jin Soo (37).

KHB won by a countback on second runner-up Pomelo Verde 1, which also scored 161 from Moralizon (45), Pillerin (42), Ting Castillo (38), Joe Marfori (36) and Louie Brodeth (33).

Moralizon and Pillerin, however, topped the Partners division with a 3-point win over first runner-up Chon Young Rung (40) and Lim Chul Kyu (44).

Second runner-up was the pair of Kim Il Gyu (42) and Lee Jae Un (40) with an 82.

Jong Tan (37) and Yoo Duk Soo (45) both won by a countback to emerge as the overall gross and net individual champions, respectively.

Phoenix Petroleum Phils. Chief Executive Officer Dennis Uy and Pioneer Insurance president Dave Coyokiat made the ceremonial tee-off.

Nobody won the four hole-in-one prizes in all par 3 holes of the golf course, prizes of which are a Xenon Premium 4×4, a Harley Davidson Sportster Iron 883, Php100,000 worth of fuel cards and Php50,000 worth of lubes.

But Lim Chul Kyu scored a rare eagle at hole No. 12 and made the longest drive at hole No. 15. Peter Baruis made the most accurate drive and Mario Lafuente the nearest to the pin.

The tournament was presented by Phoenix Petroleum Philippines together with Pioneer Your Insurance and Vitol Asia Pte Ltd., in cooperation with Brenton Engineered Products Corporation, Tata Motors and Harley Davidson.(PNA) SCS/LCM/LOLITO T. DELOS REYES/LDP
