K to 12 Plus Graduates (Tourism Cluster) Undergo Assessment for CCCI Certification

Forty three (43) graduates of the K to 12 Plus Project’s Tourism Cluster from the Banilad Center for Professional Development (BCPD) recently underwent a panel assessment by a team composed of the Hotel Resort & Restaurant Association (HRRAC), CCCI and hospitality industry experts.

The assessment, which was conducted at the BCPD Campus and at the CCCI Boardroom, measured the graduates’ readiness for employment in the hospitality industry. The assessment was made possible through the invaluable efforts of the executives, managers, and supervisors of the member companies of HRRAC – an active sectoral member of CCCI.

The K to 12 Plus Project’s Senior High School (SHS) pilot classes began their two-year training earlier than the regular SHS implementation of the Department of Education.

Using the TESDA-approved Training Regulations as basis, an industry-enhanced TVET curriculum was implemented utilizing a dual approach. The students were trained in school and in the company – a primordial approach to developing students’ employability, where the knowledge and skills learned by the students are matched with the industry requirements.

HRRAC played a vital role in the formulation of the curriculum implemented by BCPD. Cebu Grand Hotel, JPark Island Resort and Spa, Plantation Bay Resort, Crimson Resort, La Tegola Café, Laguna Group of Restaurants, Casa Verde Group, Cebu City Marriot Hotel, and the Marco Polo Plaza Cebu are behind the achievement of the K to 12 Plus Pilot Project, to date.

CCCI and Germany’s AFOS Foundation for Entrepreneurial Development Cooperation initiated the Chamber Assessment, Certification and Accreditation System (ACAS) for the K to 12 Plus Project with the objective of developing a pool of trained and certified workers that can be matched with the requirements of private companies for mid to high-level qualified workforce.

The ACAS will involve two (2) products/services for the members of the Chamber, namely, (a) Certification for Basic Qualification Certificate and Advanced Qualification Certificate, and (b) Accreditation of Companies and In-Company Trainers (In-CT). The K to 12 Plus Project is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation & Development and also includes the Philippine Chamber of Commerce & Industry (PCCI) and 6 other German organizations among its implementors.
