2015 MotoGP Champion and 5-Time World Titlist, Jorge Lorenzo, visited the Philippines for the first time on the last weekend of January 2016. Yamaha Motor Philippines Inc. made sure that the arrival of X-Fuera would be a chance for him to connect with his fans here in the archipelago. He arrived on a Friday afternoon in the Ninoy Aquino International Airport and was by the public to get a chance to see and take a photo with the Spaniard. After a quick downtime at the Edsa Shangri-la Hotel, it was off to Marco-Polo where he dined with the different dealers of Yamaha. It was short and sweet activity for Jorge who signed autographs and took pictures with those who attended.

His second day in the country would be his busiest yet most exciting part. First, he traveled to the Carmona Racing Circuit in Cavite for the Yamaha Grand Prix Seven to show the skill that made him a world-class racer. Riding the limited edition Movistar YZF-R15, he wowed the crowd as he hugged every corner and blasted through the circuit showing his skills that made him World Champion many times over. He ended his laps by getting close to the crowd and gave away limited edition items to his fans in the stands. His arrival in the YGP7 wasn’t to leave riders star struck but rather to empower them and their ability to become the best kind of rider that they can be.

Then it was off to the Greenfield District for the opening of Yamaha’s new flagship shop, the YZONE. The new facility is a state-of-the-art creation by Yamaha which is one of the biggest in the world. Themed after it’s concept of “Refined Dynamism”, the store showcased an impeccable design that showed the motion between man and machine. It also featured a second floor that will be the venue for special meetings and Yamaha Club planning sessions. The biggest section housed the Big Bike lineup which was unveiled with Jorge Lorenzo on a factory YZR-M1. It was also the time to introduce the Yamalube ST Supreme, a new synthetic oil based product for Yamaha Motorcycles that featured Jorge Lorenzo on the cover.

To top off the first time of the Spanish Champion in the country, he had an appearance at the Greenfield Park where thousands of his supporters screamed his name when he entered the stage. After meeting a couple of his fans, he gave the country a final wave, a lasting impression that will never be forgotten by his Filipino fans.

After a whirlwind of activities in Manila, he was to depart for Malaysia for his first MotoGP test ride of the year. But before he left he had this to say,

“I‘m delighted with the charming and warm welcome I received during my first time ever in the Philippines. It’s a bit strange, because I can feel something special in this country; maybe because of the Spanish heritage or the way the people speak, with so many Spanish words, I feel like I’m at home. It‘s great to visit a new place like this and I enjoyed visiting Carmona Racing Circuit a lot with all the fans waiting for me during the Yamaha Grand Prix 7. Hopefully in the future this beautiful country can participate with a Philippine rider in MotoGP and also a good circuit to compete at with MotoGP bikes, because the country is fantastic! It has been an honor to be a part of the presentation at the brand-new Yamaha flagship shop in Manila. I hope to come back soon!”

Everyone in the country felt a Rev once again by Yamaha and look forward to the coming MotoGP season but will also have everything they need here in the Philippines with the YGP and the YZONE that will continue to fuel their passion.
