After six weeks, the jury sided with Johnny Depp in his defamation case against Amber Heard.

Depp received compensatory damages worth $10 million. Depp also received $5 million in punitive damages but was later reduced to $350,000 — the state’s legal limit.

Meanwhile, as for Heard’s countersuit, she was awarded by the jury $2 million in compensatory damages.

Depp released a statement after the decision was made.

He said he is grateful for the support he received from his family, close friends, and especially the public.

“I am, and have been, overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and the colossal support and kindness from around the world. I hope that my quest to have the truth be told will have helped other, men or women, who have found themselves in my situation, and that those supporting them never give up,” Depp said.

Amber also released her own statement after the jury sided with Depp.

She expressed her disappointment with the decision of the defamatory case filed against her on social media, saying, “The disappointment I feel today is beyond words. I’m heartbroken that the mountain of evidence still was not enough to stand up to the disproportionate power.”

In March 2019, Johnny Depp filed a defamatory lawsuit against his ex-wife Amber Heard after she wrote an essay for Washington Post a year before, portraying herself as a “public figure representing domestic abuse.” Although Depp was not mentioned in the said essay, Depp claimed it cost him his acting roles.

Depp and Heard were married in 2015 but divorced after two years. (ASC)
