Morioka, Japan – Iwate Prefecture offers various attractions as the season changes. Travelers to Iwate will be treated to the warm hospitality that has made the prefecture famous throughout Japan. Iwate has developed a large number of sightseeing courses and events for tourists from Taiwan to enable them to enjoy the region throughout the year. Among some of the attractions of three highly recommended sites are — prefectural capital Morioka where the air of a dignified ancient castle town remains, Hachimantai known for a 27-kilometer stretch of road along towering snow walls, and Shizukuishi, the home of Japan’s largest private farm.

Iwate Prefecture was hit hard by the Great East Japan Earthquake, but thanks to the warm help from the people of Taiwan and elsewhere, it has been taking strong steps to rehabilitate itself.

Morioka: Morioka holds a wide variety of festivals and events all the year round, including “Morioka Sansa Odori Festival” in summer. A city with a population of about 300,000, Morioka is rich in natural resources. One way to enjoy the city is taking a stroll to a park built on the ruins of Morioka Castle, Morioka History and Culture Museum, town houses, sake breweries, and morning markets, feeling the air of a bustling castle town.

Hachimantai: Hachimantai is the best place to fully enjoy the changing seasons of Japan. It is one of the rare places in Japan where springtime tourists can enjoy both cherry blossoms and a snow-walled road at the same time. Hachimantai, where a marathon race is held in summer, is also popular among motorcycle riders and cyclists. You can also enjoy autumn foliage as well as skiing in winter. The best treat throughout the year is taking a hot-spring bath.

Shizukuishi: The first place to visit in Shizukuishi is Koiwai Farm at the foot of Mt. Iwate. A tour of the farm is available from spring to autumn while in winter, the snow festival is a must-see attraction. Shizukuishi has many facilities to accommodate travelers interested in education tours such as hands-on farm experiences and skiing lessons. (PR Newswire)
