Help Yourself Financially With Side Hustling

Published

on

The COVID-19 pandemic is still making daily life hard for everyone. Despite businesses slowly opening again, job opportunities are still hard to find as entrepreneurs try to limit their employees.

According to a survey by Social Weather Stations (SWS), 27.3 million Filipinos are jobless as of July 2020, many of those are “millennials” or young professionals.

Many of these young professionals are still on the “exploration” stage of their careers wherein they are still trying to build their own game, and the pandemic is causing the careers of these ambitious young professionals to halt, which contributes negatively to their mental health.

Anxiety and depression are the most common mental problems in today’s world, the number of people suffering from such have greatly increased due to layoffs and retrenchments of many companies because of the pandemic.

People now have started to “side hustle” as an early contingency plan for such situations.

Side hustling is now a trend especially most people stay at home. Side hustling may include gigs such as working from home, online selling, online marketing, putting up a small business down the street, direct selling different products and more.

Side hustle may be informal, technically you are self-employed but not all the time and it gets the job done. Let’s be straight forward, formal or informal as long as you it’s legal and you get paid, it is what it is. Some become Uber drivers, motorcycle riders, food delivery guys, online teachers.

Some started businesses.

The rise of social media and other related technology in today’s world also contributes to the rise of side hustle. Social media is everywhere especially to us Filipinos that even our grandparents have a Facebook account.

Facebook now seems like a mall with so many people selling cakes and pastries, lechon belly, turon and even clothing items. All of them are home based.

Smart people takes advantage of the social media, aside from it being free platform, it also reaches more people than the traditional way of advertising.
Side hustle may not be friendly every time but it is way to be productive rather than staying home and do nothing. (MLC)
