Handling Sudden Tragedy

“For man also knoweth not his time: as the fishes that are taken in an evil net, and as the birds that are caught in the snare; so are the sons of men snared in an evil time, when it falleth suddenly upon them.” Ecclesiastes 9:12

“When the storm has swept by, the wicked are gone, but the righteous stand firm forever.” Proverbs 10:25

Sometimes the suffering that comes to us through tragedy is not our fault. It just happens. How we react to suffering is critical. We live in a fallen world where sin is often allowed to run its course, affecting both believers of Jesus Christ and non-believers (Matthew 5:45). God doesn’t want us to suffer, but the great message of the Bible is that He promises to bring renewal, healing, and spiritual maturity through it so that we can be stronger and better equipped to help others and to live with purpose and meaning.

“Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it cometh. For the Lord shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken.” Proverbs 3:25-26
