Globe Reports 600 New Cell Sites, Upgrades ‘Obsolete’ 3G Network

Philippine telecommunications giant Globe Telecom, Inc. said that it has completed at least 641 new cell towers and upgraded 8,175 more during the first half of 2021.

Globe announced in a statement Tuesday that the upgrades to their network include upgrading the now “obsolete” 3G network to 4G LTE in places such as Aklan, Antique, Bataan, Capiz, Iloilo, Guimaras, Misamis Oriental, Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, Nueva Ecija, Pangasinan, Siquijor, Tarlac, and Zambales.

Moreover, the telecommunications firm said through Joel Agustin, Globe SVP for program delivery, network technical group, that the completed network expansion along with the network upgrades made will improve the quality of core Globe services such as calls, SMS, and internet browsing in areas where upgrades were made.

Augustin added that Globe is committed to improving the mobile experience in rural areas for inclusivity and further accessibility, as promised by the firm in the early parts of 2021.

Furthermore, Augustin also reiterated and further encouraged Globe users who are still currently using 3G SIM cards to make the switch to the new 5G-ready, but 4G LTE-compatible SIM cards to maximize the benefit from the new upgrades made by the firm. (GFB)
