Leading telecommunications company Globe Telecom lends its support to the 2017 adobo Design Awards Asia (aDAA), one of Asia’s most important creative awards which determines the very best designs and designers in the region.

Globe is backing the Mobile App Design for Social Good category which recognizes entries in the mobile application format that present creative solutions to social issues specifically hinged under the company’s four sustainability pillars: care for people, care for environment, building a digital nation, and positive societal impact.

Yoly C. Crisanto, Senior Vice President, Globe Corporate Communications, said: “Globe is committed to the integration of sustainability in its core operations. Thus, while remaining a purveyor of the digital lifestyle, Globe also believes on the need to combine technology with social good. Through this design category which we are supporting for the second consecutive year, we hope to encourage more people to think about and produce designs that showcase the role of technology in creating positive change or addressing social challenges that the Philippines and the rest of the world are facing.”

“Globe Telecom’s commitment to improving lives and making great things happen through communications technology is evidenced by their renewed commitment and participation in the aDAA, particularly with the Mobile App Design for Social Good category,” said adobo magazine Chief Operating Officer and Vice President Janelle Barretto-Squires. “We are most excited to see entries to this category, which was the runaway favorite of the judges during last year’s competition.” she continued.

aDAA includes 16 Professional Categories patterned loosely after D&AD, a UK-based educational org known for their staging of the world’s toughest creative competition and most coveted design accolade. They are Press and Poster, Corporate/Brand Identity, Typography, Illustration, Book Design, Magazine and Newspaper Design, Film Advertising, Videos, Short Film, Film/Video Craft, Graphic Design, Packaging Design, Outdoor, Environmental/Spatial, Product Design, Wearable Design, Production Design, Photography, Digital/Interactive, and Mobile.
There will also be an Open Category which welcomes entries from professionals, freelancers and students. This category calls for new work in any format that adheres to this year’s theme “Inspiring Humanity Through Design.”

“Meaningful and purposeful design, in all its forms, is essential to support our challenged humanity. Our humanity could afford more solutions, more inspiration and more care in order to uplift our quality of life and restore dignity for those deprived,” explains adobo magazine Founder, President and EIC Angel Guerrero.

Call for entries began on February 2 with a deadline for submission on March 11, 2017. Judging takes place on March 27-28 at the Green Sun’s Anima exhibition space. A special exhibit showcasing D&AD’s top winners for 2016 are also in the plans during this period.

To cap off “adobo Design week” select members of the jury including jury head and D&AD President Bruce Duckworth will lead the talks during the adobo Design Series, a mini conference on design which will be held on March 29. Awarding ceremonies will be held on April 5.

This year’s jury includes D&AD President Bruce Duckworth, Jowee Alviar of Team Manila, Dave Ferrer of J. Walter Thompson, calligrapher Patrick Cabral, Dan Matutina of Plus63 Design, Robert Alejandro of RAD Design, Quark Henares of Globe Studios, Ivan Despi of Acid House, internationally acclaimed art photographer Wawi Navarroza, Tokyo-based creative director Yoshihiro Yagi of Dentsu Inc., and DC comic book artist Harvey Tolibao.
