Getting Real with God

Published

on

Digging through some of my write-ups, I stumbled upon this article I wrote last year. It reminded me of getting real, being real and what it means to do so. Hope you’ll be blessed and reap the blessings of being true towards self and God.

The moment I went home from school yesterday, I got myself thinking why this week is not the usual week I have. This week was more boring. It seems too dull, no energy, no life at all. Something must have gone wrong or maybe, it’s just those days wherein these things usually happen.

But that’s not just it. I got up today, physically banged up, coughing, sneezing, toothache and all. Mentally, I was thinking about some other things. Above all those matters, spiritually, something was not right after all. As I began to sit and pray, my mind was wandering, I was not in the mood to pray, I just didn’t know what the right words to say and so on. I’m sure many of you could relate to me. Maybe we would say the same thing, “it’s just those days wherein these things usually happen.”

I have to say that as Christians, we can’t and shouldn’t tolerate these things. Yes, it’s true that there are times in our Christian walk where we feel down, depressed, burdened, tired and just want to give up. Times where praying doesn’t seem enjoyable, reading down in His Word isn’t doing well too. But that can’t happen all the time. It can’t. I’ll repeat it, it can’t.

Maybe the reason why we often feel this way is due to some hidden sins in our hearts. Maybe there is just this problem that we haven’t let go of and haven’t given to God. Those maybe some of the reasons why depression sinks in, lack of joy bogs us down and burdens tire us.

Fret not! There is one great solution that we find often hard to do but very important. This ain’t an equation but surely it helps.

It’s time for us to get real with God.

Getting real with God is not often done by all. Some of us hide our sins, solve problems our own, and do things the way we want them to be done. But God tells us, we can’t do them all alone. That’s why He says in John 15:5, “apart from me you can do nothing.” That’s the reality. The reason why God exists is to show and prove we can’t do it all alone. He wants us to come to Him, to draw near to Him, and to seek Him because we need Him.

I know getting real with a person is hard. It’s hard to be honest in front of a person especially if the person has done something wrong. There are several reasons why.

First. Maybe we don’t want to hurt the person.

Second. Maybe the person is close and special to us that’s why it’s difficult.

Third. Maybe you just want to forget it.

Fourth. Maybe you can’t trust the person.

Fifth. Maybe it will make matters worst.

But, opening to a person is way different compared to opening things to God. Why?

First. God is perfect and will always be.

Second. God always knows our hearts.

Third. God has not done anything wrong and will never.

Fourth. God knows what He is doing past, present, future.

Fifth. God understands perfectly.

Sixth. God listens attentively.

Seventh. God always cares.

Eight. God never misses out on us, even a second or a minute.

Ninth. God is forever trustworthy.

Tenth. God never denies us when we come to Him by faith in Christ.

In conclusion, you want overflowing joy to be restored in your life? Get real with God.

James 4:8 says, “Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.”

After waking up today, though I still had a hard time to pray, I just made myself honest with God and I felt way better after. It’s now time friends.

Get real with God.
