Get Ground-Breaking Treatment for Stress-Related Headaches

If feeling stressed-out has become the norm in your life, be sure to find a remedy before you’re disabled by it.

Prolonged worry and anxiety, for example, often lead to the physical pain of headaches, all of which compounds the problem leading to more stress. So if you feel tension building and lingering along your head, jaw, neck and back, the recommended solutions like doubling your daily water intake, increasing your aerobic exercise, and adding yoga or meditation plus extra sleep, are all effective for relief – and so, you might be surprised, is a consultation with a neuromuscular dentist.

Women in particular seem to brush off their headaches and just carry on. A study published in the Canadian Journal of Neurological Science revealed that too many don’t seek professional help at all.

“It’s one thing to cope with day to day stress, but when severe headaches affect your home life and work life, it’s time to act and to rescue yourself,” says Dr. Mark Duncan, clinical director at LVI Global. “Did you know that many chronic headaches or pain in the face, nose, neck and back can actually be caused by a slight jaw misalignment?”

The condition is known as TMD – temporomandibular joint disorder – and it can be easily corrected for permanent benefits.

“It is a proven alternative to taking prescription pain killers and over-the-counter drugs,” Dr. Duncan continued. “Treatment begins with a pain-free analysis of the jaw using computerized tracking instruments to record movement, resting position and path of closure. Sonography is used to record joint sounds and detect any abnormalities. X-rays may be taken to help evaluate the condition and positioning of the jaw.”

That analysis will reveal the jaw’s optimal pain-free position – and once this is known, an orthotic is made (much like a mouth guard used by athletes) to temporarily maintain the optimal position, as well as giving you immediate relief from pain.

“Afterwards, the patient and the dentist can determine if permanent crowns and veneers should be used to keep the jaw in the pain-free position permanently,” the doctor continues.
